End of Summer 2011

I’ve decided that I’m boycotting September.
Not just “sad” to see Fall coming closer and closer day by day…
I’m in full Tantrum mode!
We’re talking 3 year old screaming on the floor-Pointed-toes-and-all.
I feel like I’ve been Jipped.
Spring went until late June and now it’s the end of August.
Enter angry mode. Since when Is summer only 2 months?
64 degrees last night. This is crap. Absolute crap.
Of course Jake loves it because summer is too hot for him most days.
I’m not a big winter lover to begin with (living in Hawaii for a few years will mess anyone up)
So naturally Fall is the gateway to frigid winters, so I don’t like it.
A few years back (think 2001) I enjoyed Fall, driving through the canyons of Sanpete & Juab county on the way to Snow College – the crisp excitement of a new school year in the air. The leaves changing colors from green into vivid oranges, reds and yellows.
Blah.
None of that crap to look forward to now.
Just another Long cold winter.
At least last winter we had Sophie to keep us from getting the winter blues.
She’s old enough now that she will be terrorizing the house, getting into everything.
The summer has been good because we have been taking her out on walks in her awesome stroller when she gets antsy inside.
That’s not going to happen in the winter.
I’m scared.
I can see nothing but crap in the near future.

End of summer rant 2011.

Yea for me, I finally got the mural up

and I adore it.

Even better than I thought it would be.

Sometimes they just don't stick like they should.

But this one did. I found it on ETSY.

mmm

I think I want this to be my bedroom now.

Hedgehog of love
So Cute!

You may not be on the Vinyl banwagon- but how can you not smile with this one.

I totally diggggg it.

Trip

I’m so excited to take Jake back east that I just can’t stand it!
We are going to fly in to Manchester, New Hampshire in the end of September.
I’m taking him on this trip for his belated 30th (31st too.) I figured we better do it soon before the baby gets any older.

Ever since I visited Vermont (think 1996) I’ve wanted to come back in the fall and see the spectacular leaves turn. But calling it the “Fall Foliage Tour” seemed a little too tree hugger … so this trip doesn’t have a name as of yet. But it does have a theme.
We are going back to the Palmyra temple via Sharon, Vermont (and Woodstock).

I can’t wait. Mmm. It will be good just to drive together and see all the old sites. I loved loved loved the Sacred grove, the grandin press and the Hill Cumorah pageant. The last time I was in Palmyra President Hinckley was also in the Sacred Grove at the same time.

It was pretty much amazing. We went on a Church History Tour with Scot and Maurine Proctor. It was fantastic… and if they ever do It again… count me in.

After we leave Palmyra we are going to stay in Concord, Mass (Colonial inn… yes it’s haunted). I’m super excited to go to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. Louisa May Alcott, Edgar Allen Poe, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Nathaniel Hawthorne are all buried there.
Some people may think that I’m totally crazy for spending time walking through old cemeteries … whatever… you can think what you want. Don’t Care. Old headstones are awesome. I will be great to be back in such a historic area.

The USS constitution will be another stop on our list too. Hope Ole Ironsides is still floating when we get there! House of seven Gables... stephen king anyone ?

Salem witch museum is also on the agenda!

Sophie

Cutest Baby in the World Picture

I'm pretty sure this one would win a contest. ha ha
(I love great grandma in the background)

She has found her upper lip and she loves it.

She also loves her Hippo Rattle. mmm tasty

Her hair is at a point that it looks best sticking directly up.

FUN with daddy

Peek a boo

My Hat!

so Jake went Elk hunting Monday and got a big cow, while he was gone I was at my parents house and my dad was telling sophie stories...
she had a bambi book that he was reading to her but he kinda went off script and it went something like this...

"This is thumper and he thumps his foot. The little birds sing to bambi. Then Sophie's dad kills bambi and has to gut bambi in the forest."

EW.

Room

OK so here's what we've got... obviously it's just fabric thrown on to the bed... but you get the drift. I'm thinking I will make some awesome little pillows to go in the corner instead of the two or three large ones that usually go on daybeds. I threw two big pillows on the bed and just covered them in a coral fabric I had laying around but I don't think I like the look (pic below)

It might be too much pink.. maybe some orange polka dot or green stripe fabric is in store for this little bed. hmm.. I'm really thinking about re doing the curtains too. I love the pic below.

So summer and happy!

some other options

ok this one is a little intense for my sewing skills but I still love it.

Could you imagine it in Corals, Oranges, Yellows, and lime ?

mmmm sherbet anyone ?

Sophie's Room

Everyone in our house is sick... Can you say MAN COLD... eeew.

But I can't stand sitting around.
So I decided to redesign Sophie's room.

it went from just black and brown to a sassy in a flash . I added bead board that was 5'5" on top of the 3" trim (really tall for a change- the ceilings are high so why not) and Lime green crown molding. The top color is Coral.. hard to see with my camera phone but you get the drift. The bead board is a cream color .

I re-painted all my collected frames to accent the awesome fabric that was my inspiration for the whole thing...

it's called splashy rose (below) and I love love love it.

mmmm. delicious.

I love the fabric so much I'm making a bedspread out of it.
I purchased a daybed for her too and I can't decide whether to paint it coral or to keep it the maple color it is now.. hmmm. I"ll have to post pictures of what happens.

shower

So we went to a cousins shower last night.

It was at Great Grandma Peggy Page's house.
I love how all of Sophies cousins and aunts try and steal her.

this is aunt Stephanie...

Sophie loves to eat her necklaces.

And YES... those are leg warmers.

Can I tell you how happy I am that they make leg warmers for babies? seriously- one of the little things that make life great. I pull them over her heels (a la flashdance.. thank you very much)

Blessing Dress

Sophia's BLESSING DRESS IS DONE

So, we picked up the dress yesterday (yes i had to borrow an SUV to get it home).
62" x 40" total.
I don't think you can tell the size very well on this pic but it's big,
trust me.

(insert a "that's what she said" joke here)

Anyway- I am a little miffed that the right side of the dress is messed up, so I think I'm going to take it apart and try and straighten it myself this weekend.
I'm sure that I can enlist my mom's help.
I tried to fix it through the glass more than once last night just while looking at it.
overall I would recommend JoAnn's to get stuff framed (mostly because I had a 65% off coupon... without it the framing would have cost over $1,300.00).
I understand that this isn't a typical blessing dress... but If I pay someone cash money to do a job I don't want them to do it sloppy.

I don't do a sloppy job at work (If I did I wouldn't have got employee of the month) so I expect the same from others.

I wonder If I do take it apart if we can take it back and make them do it right or If I should just take it back and make them do it. The ladies were so proud of their work- it was hard to point out my issues with it to them (and they were like 70 years old).

decisions, decisions.

Decor ideas

I really like the colors above.

Maybe it's time to repaint the kitchen ...

I'm feeling robin egg blue or Tiffany green.

Yes, Please.

Seriously If I had that much money, I'd do it too.

The fixture below really wants to live in my kitchen

Its by Uttermost, and it's 723.00

I just don't think that it's going to be in the cards though...

maybe we'll go to the smithsonian instead... costs about the same.
